Research on Birmingham City

Birmingham City contains a lot of history and is always the hot topic in news articles when they hold their huge events there. Birmingham's first canal was opened in 1769 and linked Birmingham to Wednesbury. There are many locks on the canals including the famous Guillotine Lock in Kings Norton. Moreover, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, spent his childhood in Sare hole, Birmingham. The tiny village of Sare hole is said to have been the model for the Shire, home of Bilbo in the book The Hobbit. On the other hand, Birmingham holds a lot of events such as the 2022 Commonwealth games- the world's biggest multi-sport event outside the Olympic games, the Gymnastics World cup, and many festivals. However, this year, Birmingham will be holding a lot of events to do with bug music artists like Pink, Lewis Capaldi and Maroon 5. They will also hold the World Indoor Athletics Championships at Birmingham arena and Crufts by the Kennel Club in NEC.

On the media, there are many news sources such as Birmingham Live where you can find many affairs happening right now in Birmingham City or in the past. For example, in Birmingham Live, today's article explains how disabled Birmingham City fans are too scared to attend football matches after being hit by flares. Moreover, another reliable news source surrounding Birmingham is the Express, which goes on to explain the West Midland's police in Birmingham and their current situation. There are many more media sources which anyone can get access to on the internet which show the public any situations or problems that are occurring in Birmingham City.

Inspiration

For our TV show, we can draw a lot of our inspiration from shows such as The Inbetweeners. This show centers around the lives of four teens based in the UK, which is good for us as our TV show is going to be in Birmingham. The series also looks at topics such as love, trauma and sexuality which is a good depiction of teenagers still today.

Moreover, the TV show Skins is also a perfect example of teens and explores their issues like mental illnesses, substance abuse, gender and bullying, which are all frequent problems most teens go through on a daily basis. This would also help us actors get to know different types of personalities and see how teens deal with it.

Reflection

Overall, creating the moodboard and researching different but similar tv shows to our mini-series was very beneficial as it allowed us to not only help us create an image in our head of how we want to portray our series, but to see who our competition is and how we can make our mockumentary better so we can attract more of an audience to view it. Researching also helped us to look into different character traits and styles so that we can use them as inspiration to our own and create realistic characters.

Moreover, I worked collaboratively with others during this task too by helping create a mood board together. We all had our own tv show that we could explore and then we would gather as much detail as possible about each of our own tv shws and use that inforation to get pictures and facts about it. This helped put together a mood board of different inspirations that we could use to make our mockumentary theme. However, this process did become slow at times as it took us a while to gather pictures and as much inforation about these shows as much as possible which slowed the process of making the mood board, so moving forward, I am going to suggest that we go home first and research and then come in the next day with our photos ready.
